First, I want to apologize for being away from this website for so long—again. My startup with a friend has taken up much of my time. We are still working hard to get the business off the ground, but I have many thoughts and resources about mild cognitive impairment (MCI) that I want to share. So, I have decided to make time for this site again.
It has now been more than 10 years since I was diagnosed with MCI, and thankfully, it has not progressed to Alzheimer’s disease. I remain independent and fully functional. As I mentioned, I am even able to devote significant time and energy to building a new business.
I have noticed that my short-term memory is a little worse, and that can certainly be frustrating. However, I am still able to do what I need and want to do. Over the years, I have taken many steps to support my health and maintain a good quality of life, and I believe those efforts have helped.
My experience is only one example, but it shows that an MCI diagnosis is not necessarily a life sentence. Each person’s situation is different, but there can still be many years of independence, purpose, learning, and meaningful activity ahead.
